Receipts inbox and receipt rules

Send receipts in by email, WhatsApp or upload, have them matched to payments, and set when a receipt is required.

The Receipts page is your inbox for the paperwork behind spending. Send receipts in from anywhere. Athena reads each one, matches it to the payment it belongs to and files it. Anything unclear waits there for you.

Ways to send a receipt

  • Email: forward the receipt or send it as the email itself to your private receipts address, shown on the page. Keep that address private, because anyone who has it can add receipts.
  • WhatsApp: verify your phone number first, switch it on, then send a photo of the receipt from that phone.
  • Upload: drop photos or PDFs on the page, up to five at a time.
  • Through Athena: attach the receipt in a chat and ask Athena to match it.

Receipt rules

Owners and admins can require a receipt for card payments at or above an amount. If a receipt is missing, the payment is flagged, and the card can be frozen until the receipt is added or waived. See Issue and manage cards.

We check what we read. If the sums on a receipt do not add up, or the vendor or date looks wrong, we flag it instead of guessing, so you can correct it.

Common questions

Why does my receipt say it is not matched?

We could not tie it to one payment with confidence, for example because the amount, date or merchant differs. It waits in your inbox. Open it and choose the payment it belongs to, or ask Athena to help.

Can I send receipts by WhatsApp?

Yes. Verify your phone number under settings, switch WhatsApp intake on for your account, then send a photo from that number.
